These nourishing Homemade Granola Bars are loaded with protein-rich almonds, smooth peanut butter, dark chocolate chips, oats and maple syrup. They are chewy, nutty, chocolatey and crunchy all at the same time. And only 5 ingredients – bonus! This is like my Homemade Granola in bar form.

I’ve always loved granola, but do you know what’s even better? Granola in bar form. As a vegan, I find it always helps to carry around a small snack stash because you never can be too certain if vegan snacks will be available and when they’re not – well it’s a ‘hanger’ disaster waiting to happen!

The other great thing about granola is you can kind of pretty much add what you want whether it be chocolate, nuts, fruit, seeds, even candy if you want to go all out!
Questions about Homemade Granola Bars
How to make Homemade Granola Bars?
To make Homemade Granola Bars, you will need oats, peanut butter, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, chocolate chips, almonds and hazlenuts. In a bowl, combine the maple syrup and peanut butter. When well mixed, fold in the oats. When the oats are mixed well with the nut butter mix, fold in the nuts and chocolate chips. Place into a square tin lined with greaseproof paper and bake at 180℃ for 15 minutes. Remove and allow to cool before slicing.
Are granola bars healthy?
Granola bars can be healthy depending on what goes in them. Nuts are quite energy-dense and high in fat, but are still very nourishing due to their micronutrient content, especially when raw. Oats are rich in soluble fibre and dark chocolate happens to exhibit antioxidant activity. So although not low in calorie, some granola bars (especially home made ones) can be very nutrient-rich and a good source of minerals, vitamins and fibre. This recipe also uses coconut maple syrup so no refined sugar.
Can I substitute peanut butter for almond butter?
You can substitute peanut butter for almond butter, or any nut butter for that matter. It is completely dependent on preference and convenience. The textures for nut butters (depending on the quality) are quite similar – if less processed, they will tend to be a bit more runny, and if highly processed, quite stiff but creamy.
Can I eat a granola bar after workout?
Granola bars can be eaten after a workout and also before a workout but that depends completely on the nutrient composition of the bar in terms of protein, carbohydrate and fat.
How to store granola bars?
Granola bars can be stored in an air tight container for up to a week. In a freezer they can be kept for up to 2 months.
