Questions about Chocolate Overnight Oats
How to make Chocolate Overnight Oats? To make Chocolate Overnight Oats, you will need to add plant milk to oats with cocoa powder and sweetener of choice. Leave overnight in the fridge. In this recipe, I added the oats to a food processor and blended into a flour to give a more smooth, pudding-like texture.
Can I make my own oat flour? You can make your own oat flour at home by adding oats to a food processor and blitzing into a fine powder.
Are overnight oats healthy? Oats are rich in soluble fibre and contain a range of vitamins and minerals. Soaking oats overnight also helps to reduce something called phytates, which can inhibit absorption of minerals, so you could even say it’s a better option than hot porridge which is normally made without soaking oats. However, the amount of sugar or toppings you add, such as peanut butter, chocolate sauce, nuts etc, will add to the energy density (calories) as it increases fat and sugar. However, ingredients such as nuts are also rich in minerals which are nourishing. So the quantity is most important when considering how healthy this dish is.
Chocolate Overnight Oats Substitutions
Any plant milk can be used in this recipe. The milk can also be replaced with water, though the texture will be less creamy.
Any type of cocoa powder can be use, but it is best to use unsweetened. You can also add melted chocolate chips to give that chocolate flavour – these contain more fat and sugar, but will still give an intense chocolate flavour and add to the creamy texture.
