Homemade Ferrero Rocher

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe
vegan ferrero rocher chocolate truffle bitten in middle to reveal centre filled with fudgy date and whole roasted hazelnut

The healthiest Homemade Ferrero Rocher chocolates ever! These sophisticated chocolate hazelnut truffles are made using just 4 ingredients and require minimal effort to make – and when I say minimal, I mean seriously negligible effort!

These have been adapted from my Peanut Butter Dates recipe for a more Christmas feel! Made using dates, chocolate, hazelnuts, these Ferrero Rocher dates are exactly what they say they are. Dates that taste and look like Ferrero Rocher chocolates. A sweet, succulent, fudgy caramel-like medjool date filled with a whole toasted hazelnut, smothered generously in chocolate and sprinkled with crushed hazelnuts.

Dates have been around for thousands of years and from what history tells us, they originated from the Middle East. Possibly first from Iran, but the Egyptians were the first to make wine from them. There are so many different varieties such as Barhi, Medjool, Halawy, Dayri just to name a few. Having made their way around the world, we have been graced outside of the Middle East with their existence!

I find these Ferrero Rocher dates the perfect, nourishing go-to candy or post-workout snack. A good source of minerals and just a convenient, delicious little bite-sized nibble, always great to have around. They can also last quite some time in or out of the fridge (longer in the fridge) in an airtight container, though I can’t stop so they don’t last long around me!

Questions about Homemade Ferrero Rocher

How to make Homemade Ferrero Rocher?

These Homemade Ferrero Rocher require 4 ingredients: hazelnuts, chocolate, plant milk and dates. First, remove the stones from the dates by slitting the date down the centre using a sharp knife and then removing it. Stuff a hazelnut in and seal the edges – the date should be fudgy and sticky enough to seal itself when squeezed using hands. Heat the plant milk just before boiling point, remove from the heat then add the chocolate. Mix the chocolate with the plant milk until the chocolate has melted. Immerse the stuffed date into the chocolate the remove using a fork, allowing excess chocolate to drip off. Place on a tray lined with greaseproof paper and sprinkle with crushed hazelnuts. Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour before eating.

Is Ferrero Rocher vegan?

The original Ferrero Rocher chocolates are unfortunately not vegan. But lucky for you, the ones in this recipe are!

Are dates good for you?

Dates tend to have a higher sugar content than many fruits in dried form, but they are a very good source of minerals and fibre.

Homemade Ferrero Rocher Substitutions

  • The step to blitz some of the mincemeat can be omitted but the filling texture will vary slightly.
