This Apple and Blackberry Crumble is the most comforting, cosiest dessert ever – each mouthful is like a little hug! The filling has no added sugar and the topping is medium-sweet with the toasty crunch from the almonds, the crumbliness from the buttery oat chunks that melt in your mouth and the fragrance of sweet, warming cinnamon.

Your mouth’s watering right?!

And since it’s summer, you can enjoy this chilled or slightly warm with some ice cream, trust me, amazing pudding. Actually it would even make for a moderately healthy snack in my opinion!

Questions about Apple Blackberry Crumble
What is apple berry crumble? A crumble is also known as a crisp (in the US). It is a mix of flour, sugar and fat that is transformed into a breadcrumb mix, sprinkled on top of fruit and then baked until the fruit is tender and bubbly and the top is golden brown with a bit of crunch. This recipe uses apples and mixed berries as the filling and oats in place of flour for the topping.
How to make apple and blackberry crumble? To make apple and blackberry crumble, there are two components: the topping and the filling. The filling is usually raw fruit thrown into a baking dish. The topping requires a little more work as the flour, fat and sugar must be well incorporated, either using hands or a food processor, into the appropriate texture before being baked on top of the filling, typically around 50 minutes.
What fruits can be used in crumble? Any fruit you fancy. Usually more firm fruits require a little more time to become tender as opposed to soft fruits when baking.
Is crumble healthy? Since half of the dessert is made with fruit I would confidently say that it is probably a healthy alternative to standard cakes! Especially since fruit is nourishing. In addition, you can control the amount of sugar and fat in the topping and choose to use oats or whole wheat flour etc instead of refined grains, making it potentially healthy enough for breakfast or post gym snacks.
