Crispy Crisp Chaat (Indian Street Food with a Twist)

Advertisements

If you’re looking for a snack that’s bursting with flavour, takes minutes to prepare and is guaranteed to impress, this Crisp Chaat is exactly what you need. Inspired by the famous Indian street food, this version swaps traditional papdi or fried crackers for your favourite crisps, creating an irresistibly crunchy, tangy and spicy dish that’s perfect for sharing.

Every bite combines crisp potatoes, cooling dairy-free yoghurt, fresh vegetables, fragrant herbs and sweet, spicy and tangy chutneys. The contrast of textures and flavours is what makes chaat so addictive, and this crisp version is an easy way to recreate those iconic street food flavours at home.

Whether you’re serving it at a summer barbecue, movie night, family gathering or simply fancy a quick snack, this recipe comes together in under 10 minutes with no cooking required.

As a vegan dietitian, I also love that this recipe shows how meals don’t have to be perfectly “healthy” to be balanced. Pairing crisps with fresh vegetables, herbs and a protein-rich plant yoghurt creates a satisfying snack that’s packed with flavour while adding more plant foods to your day.

Why You’ll Love This Crisp Chaat

What is Chaat?

Chaat is one of India’s most popular street foods, known for its incredible balance of flavours. Traditionally, it combines crunchy elements with potatoes, chickpeas, yoghurt, chutneys, herbs and spices to create a dish that’s sweet, spicy, tangy, savoury and fresh all at once.

There are countless regional variations across India, each with its own unique ingredients and flavours.

This recipe keeps those classic flavour combinations while replacing traditional papdi with crunchy crisps, making it incredibly quick and accessible while still delivering everything people love about chaat.
